
Poor sanitation costs Rwanda 32 billion Rwandan Francs each year, equivalent to US$54 million, according to a desk study carried out by the Water and Sanitation Program. This sum is the equivalent of US$5 per person in Rwanda per year or 0.9 percent of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
